A handbook on Japan’s revised calendar system, by the Japanese scholar Yukichi Fukuzawa. In 1873 Japan switched from an old lunar-solar calendar to a new solar calendar and from the seasonal time system to fixed time system. The switch prompted a huge demand for western timepieces calibrated to tell time by the fixed time system.
