Water clocks

Sundial could not be used on rainy days, or at night when the sun was not shining. So, around 3,500 years ago, people started making water clocks.
It looks like the buckets we use for cleaning, doesn’t it? How does it measure time?
There is a hole at the bottom of the container, so when you put water into it the water leaks out, and the water level starts to go down gradually. People would tell the time by measuring the water level using the markings on the inside of the container.
