The Water Clock Re-Invented ′Yukyu′

This luxury clock innovatively reproduces the driving mechanism of a large astronomical water-powered time-measuring instrument developed around 900 years ago in China. This mechanism may have inspired the design for today’s mechanical clock systems with escapements. Seiko achieved this innovative reproduction by finding a replacement for water power (steel balls), calculating the complicated motions of the train wheels, and establishing precise processing and assembly techniques.
