Additional information The clock manufacturers of Germany and much of the rest of Europe were forced to halt production at the outbreak of World War I. Seiko took in huge orders totaling 600,000 clocks for the United Kingdom and 300,000 clocks from France. The acquisition of foreign currency in exchange for industrial products at that scale was epoch-making.
