Photo Finish Camera with 2000 Frames a Second
Used for the World Championships in Athletics held in Tokyo in 1991, the photo finish camera took 2000 sequence photographs per second. Sequence photos of the athletes crossing the finish were synthesized by computer to calculate finishing times with a 1/1000th-of-a-second accuracy. Unlike a traditional film camera, which requires time for processing, the photo finish camera determined the order of arrival and the exact finish time immediately.
